Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and explain the different food groups in the healthy food pyramid, and understand the importance of a balanced diet for overall health and well-being.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: Paper, markers, and access to the internet for research. No prior knowledge required.
Activities
Create a Healthy Food Pyramid: Have the student draw a large triangle on a piece of paper and divide it into sections to represent the different food groups. Then, research and fill in each section with examples of foods that belong to each group.
Menu Planning: Ask the student to plan a day's worth of meals using the food pyramid as a guide. They should include foods from each food group and explain the importance of including a variety of foods in their diet.
Food Group Presentation: Have the student choose one food group from the pyramid and create a short presentation about its importance, benefits, and examples of foods in that group.
