Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and explain the different food groups in the healthy food pyramid, and understand the importance of a balanced diet for overall health and well-being.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: Paper, markers, and access to the internet for research. No prior knowledge required.

Activities

  • Create a Healthy Food Pyramid: Have the student draw a large triangle on a piece of paper and divide it into sections to represent the different food groups. Then, research and fill in each section with examples of foods that belong to each group.

  • Menu Planning: Ask the student to plan a day's worth of meals using the food pyramid as a guide. They should include foods from each food group and explain the importance of including a variety of foods in their diet.

  • Food Group Presentation: Have the student choose one food group from the pyramid and create a short presentation about its importance, benefits, and examples of foods in that group.
