Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create your own imaginative artwork inspired by the book "The Very Very Far North" and express your creativity through practical arts activities.
Materials and Prep
You will need paper, coloring materials (crayons, colored pencils, markers), and any other craft supplies you enjoy using. Before starting the lesson, make sure you have read or are familiar with the book "The Very Very Far North."
Activities
1. Create a scene: Choose a favorite part of the book and draw a scene from it. Use your imagination to bring the characters and setting to life on paper.
2. Build a diorama: Recreate a specific location from the book using a shoebox or any available materials. Use your creativity to make it as detailed as possible.
3. Design a new character: Invent a new character that could live in the world of "The Very Very Far North." Draw and color your character, and give them a name and backstory.
Third Grade Talking Points
- "In the book, the characters live in a place that is very different from where we live. Let's imagine what their home looks like and draw a picture of it."
- "We can use our creativity to make a 3D model of a scene from the book. It's like creating a small world that we can hold in our hands."
- "Let's think about what other animals or people might live in the far north. We can draw a picture of a new character and make up a story about them."
