Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and comprehend Pokémon card information, and use that information to make decisions about your card collection.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Pokémon cards

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the Pokémon card game and the different types of cards.

Activities

  • Sort your Pokémon cards into different categories such as type, rarity, and strength. As you sort, read the information on each card out loud.

  • Choose a Pokémon card and describe it to a family member or friend using the information on the card. Ask them to guess which Pokémon it is based on your description.

  • Create a story using the Pokémon characters on your cards. Write the story down and read it out loud to someone else.

  • "Pokémon cards have different types like Fire, Water, and Grass. Can you find a card with a Fire type?"
  • "Some Pokémon cards are rare and hard to find. Can you show me a card that you think is rare?"
  • "This Pokémon has a high number for its strength. Can you tell me what number it is?"
  • "Let's read the name of this Pokémon together. Can you find the first letter of its name on the card?"
