Materials and Prep
- Pokémon cards (at least 10 cards)
- Pen and paper
- Basic understanding of addition, subtraction, and multiplication
Activities
1. Pokémon Card Addition: Choose 3 Pokémon cards and add their HP (Hit Points) together. Write down the total HP.
2. Pokémon Card Subtraction: Pick 2 Pokémon cards and subtract the retreat cost of one card from the HP of the other card. Write down the result.
3. Pokémon Card Multiplication: Select 2 Pokémon cards and multiply their attack damage. Record the product.
Third Grade Talking Points
- "When we add the HP of Pokémon cards, we are combining their strengths to get a total."
- "Subtracting the retreat cost from the HP helps us understand how much energy a Pokémon has left after retreating."
- "Multiplying the attack damage of Pokémon cards shows us the total power of their combined attacks."
