Activities
1. Speed Writing Race: Set a timer for 1 minute and have the student write as many words as they can. Encourage them to focus on speed rather than perfection.
2. Story Relay: Start a story together and take turns writing one sentence at a time. Set a timer for each turn to encourage quick thinking and writing.
3. Word Sprint: Call out a simple word and have the student write it as many times as they can in 30 seconds. This activity helps build muscle memory for common words.
First Grade Talking Points
- "Writing can be like a race. We can try to write our words as fast as we can, just like running!"
- "When we work together to write a story, we have to be quick to think of our sentences so the story keeps going!"
- "Sometimes we have to write the same word many times, and it's like a little challenge to see how fast we can do it!"
