Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a visual art piece that depicts an animal of their choice and explain their artwork using art vocabulary.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: paper, pencils, erasers, colored pencils or crayons. No prior knowledge required.

Activities

  • Begin by discussing different animals and their characteristics. Encourage the student to choose an animal they find interesting.

  • Have the student sketch their chosen animal, paying attention to details such as fur, feathers, scales, etc.

  • Once the sketch is complete, have the student use colored pencils or crayons to add color and texture to their drawing.

  • Ask the student to explain their artwork, using art vocabulary such as texture, form, and color.
