Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a short story based on a tabletop role-playing game setting, using descriptive language and basic story elements.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or pens
  • Imagination

Activities

  1. Brainstorming Setting

Ask the student to think about their favorite tabletop role-playing game. Have them describe the setting of the game, including the location, time period, and any fantastical elements. Encourage them to use their imagination and be as descriptive as possible.

  2. Creating Characters

Guide the student in creating characters for their story. Have them think about the different roles and abilities that characters can have in a tabletop role-playing game. Encourage them to come up with unique and interesting characters.

  3. Plot Development

Help the student develop a plot for their story. Have them think about the challenges and obstacles their characters might face in the game. Encourage them to think about how their characters will overcome these challenges and what lessons they might learn along the way.

  4. Writing the Story

Provide the student with paper and pencils or pens. Have them write their story based on the setting, characters, and plot they have developed. Encourage them to use descriptive language and include details that bring their story to life.

  5. Sharing and Feedback

Once the student has finished writing their story, have them share it with you or someone else. Provide positive feedback and ask questions to encourage further thinking and improvement.
