Materials and Prep
Materials:
- Magnifying glass
- Notebook and pencil
- Binoculars (optional)
Prep:
- Choose a safe outdoor area for exploration

Activities
1. Nature Scavenger Hunt: Explore the outdoor area and find different plants, insects, and animals. Use the magnifying glass to observe them up close.
2. Plant and Animal Observations: Choose a plant and an animal to observe closely. Draw and write about what you see in your notebook.
3. Bird Watching: Use binoculars to observe and identify different birds in the area. Take notes on their colors, size, and behavior.
Third Grade Talking Points
- Plants make their own food through a process called photosynthesis. They need sunlight, water, and air to survive. You can say, "Plants use sunlight to make their own food, just like how we need food to grow and stay healthy."
- Animals need plants for food and shelter. They also need water and air to survive. You can say, "Animals depend on plants for their food and homes, just like how we depend on our homes and food to live."
- Observing nature helps us learn about the world around us. You can say, "When we look closely at plants and animals, we can learn so much about how they live and interact with each other."
