Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a memorial in the video game Stormworks and understand the importance of memorials in honoring historical events and people.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or gaming console with the video game Stormworks installed
  • Paper and pencil for brainstorming and sketching ideas
  • Prior knowledge of how to navigate and play the video game Stormworks

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Begin by discussing the concept of memorials with the student. Talk about different types of memorials they might have seen in real life, such as statues, monuments, or plaques. Encourage the student to think about a historical event or person they find significant and would like to create a memorial for in the video game Stormworks.

  2. Designing the Memorial: Have the student sketch their ideas for the memorial on paper. They can consider the shape, size, and any additional elements they want to include, such as symbols or inscriptions. Encourage them to think about how their design will reflect the significance of the event or person they have chosen.

  3. Building the Memorial in Stormworks: Guide the student in using the tools and features of the video game Stormworks to bring their memorial design to life. Help them navigate the game's building options and assist with any technical challenges they may encounter.

  4. Presenting and Reflecting: Once the memorial is complete, have the student present their creation to you. Ask them to explain the historical event or person it represents and why they chose to create a memorial for them. Engage in a discussion about the importance of memorials in preserving history and honoring the past.
