Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand and identify Garfield numbers up to 10,000,000.
Materials and Prep
- Pen or pencil
- Blank paper or notebook
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Start by introducing the concept of Garfield numbers to the student. Explain that Garfield numbers are numbers that are multiples of 12,345.
- Ask the student to write down the first five Garfield numbers (12,345, 24,690, 37,035, 49,380, 61,725) and observe the pattern.
- Challenge the student to find the next five Garfield numbers on their own. Allow them some time to work on it independently.
- Review the answers and discuss the pattern of Garfield numbers. Help the student understand that each Garfield number is obtained by adding 12,345 to the previous Garfield number.
- Provide additional practice by asking the student to write the Garfield numbers up to 10,000,000. Encourage them to use the pattern they have observed.
