Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basic concepts of Earth Science related to animals.
Materials and Prep
- Pen and paper
- Access to a computer or mobile device
- No prior knowledge required
Activities
-
Research and write about an animal of your choice.
Use your computer or mobile device to find information about an animal that interests you. Write a short paragraph or create a small presentation about the animal, including its habitat, diet, and any unique characteristics. Be prepared to share your findings with the class.
-
Create a food web for a specific ecosystem.
Choose an ecosystem, such as a forest or a coral reef, and create a food web to demonstrate the interdependence of animals within that ecosystem. Use arrows to show the flow of energy from one organism to another. Be creative and include as many different animal species as you can.
-
Observe and record animal behavior in your backyard or local park.
Spend some time outdoors observing animals in their natural habitat. Take notes on their behavior, such as how they interact with each other, how they find food, or how they protect themselves. You can draw sketches or take photographs to document your observations.
Seventh Grade Talking Points
- "Animals play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems."
- "Different animals have unique adaptations that help them survive in their specific habitats."
- "Food chains and food webs illustrate the flow of energy within an ecosystem."
- "Observing animal behavior can provide insights into their survival strategies and social interactions."
- "Understanding Earth Science concepts related to animals can help us appreciate and protect the natural world."
