Materials and Prep

  • Map of the Roman Empire
  • Pen and paper

Activities

  • Create a Roman Empire Map: Using the map of the Roman Empire, have the student draw and label the different regions that were part of the empire. Encourage them to use different colors to represent different periods of expansion.
  • Research and Present: Assign the student a specific region that was conquered by the Romans. Ask them to research and prepare a short presentation on how the Roman Empire impacted that region culturally, economically, and politically.
  • Timeline of Expansion: Have the student create a timeline of the major events and conquests during the expansion of the Roman Empire. They can use a ruler and markers to draw the timeline and write down the significant dates and events.
  • Role Play: Divide the student into groups and assign each group a different role (Roman general, conquered tribe leader, Roman citizen, etc.). Encourage them to act out different scenarios that would have occurred during the expansion of the Roman Empire, such as negotiations, battles, or daily life in conquered territories.
