Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and interpret video game narratives, identify literary elements within video games, and make connections between video game stories and real-world themes.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pen/pencil
  • No prior knowledge or preparation required

Activities

  1. Choose a video game of your choice and play it for at least 30 minutes. Pay close attention to the storyline, characters, and any literary elements present.

  2. Write a short summary of the video game's plot, including the main characters and their goals. Identify any conflicts or challenges they face.

  3. Create a character analysis for one of the main characters in the video game. Describe their personality, motivations, and how they contribute to the overall story.

  4. Identify and analyze any literary elements present in the video game. This could include themes, symbolism, foreshadowing, or character development. Write down your observations.

  5. Reflect on the video game's story and themes. Write a short paragraph discussing any connections you can make between the video game and real-world issues or experiences.
