Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencils
  • Access to a computer or tablet with internet

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Parts of Speech Scavenger Hunt
  • Have the student search for sentences or phrases related to Roblox or iPad games on websites or forums. Ask them to identify and label the different parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs) in each sentence.

  • Activity 2: Create Your Own Roblox Story
  • Ask the student to write a short story or description about their favorite Roblox game or iPad game. Encourage them to use a variety of different parts of speech in their writing.

  • Activity 3: Grammar Game Show
  • Create a game show-style activity where you give the student sentences related to Roblox or iPad games and they have to identify the correct part of speech for a given word. Use a point system to make it more engaging.

Talking Points

  • What are nouns?
  • "Nouns are words that name people, places, things, or ideas. For example, in the sentence 'I love playing Roblox,' the word 'Roblox' is a noun because it is the name of a game."

  • What are verbs?
  • "Verbs are action words. They show what someone or something is doing. In the sentence 'I am playing Roblox,' the word 'playing' is a verb because it shows the action of what I am doing."

  • What are adjectives?
  • "Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns. They give more information about a person, place, or thing. For example, in the sentence 'I have a colorful iPad,' the word 'colorful' is an adjective because it describes the iPad."

  • What are adverbs?
  • "Adverbs are words that describe or modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They tell us how, when, where, or why something happens. In the sentence 'I quickly completed the game,' the word 'quickly' is an adverb because it describes how I completed the game."
