Objective

By the end of this 9-month nature photography project, the student will have developed their photography skills, gained a deeper appreciation for nature, and created a portfolio of stunning nature photographs.

Materials and Prep

  • A digital camera or smartphone with a camera
  • A computer or device for photo editing
  • Access to various natural environments (parks, forests, beaches, etc.)
  • Research and learn about different photography techniques and compositions

Activities

  • Research and Study: Begin by researching famous nature photographers and their works. Study their techniques, compositions, and styles. Take notes on what inspires you.
  • Exploration: Visit different natural environments and explore their unique features. Experiment with different angles, lighting conditions, and perspectives to capture interesting shots.
  • Composition Practice: Learn and practice various composition techniques such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing. Apply these techniques to your photographs to enhance their visual impact.
  • Macro Photography: Focus on the intricate details of nature by capturing close-up shots of flowers, insects, or other small subjects. Experiment with different depths of field to create stunning macro images.
  • Seasonal Themes: Capture the changing seasons by focusing on specific themes each month. For example, in spring, focus on blooming flowers, while in winter, capture the beauty of snow-covered landscapes.
  • Editing and Presentation: Learn basic photo editing techniques using software or apps. Enhance your photographs by adjusting brightness, contrast, and colors. Create a digital or physical portfolio to showcase your best works.
