Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and produce phonetic sounds while engaging in a fun Play dough activity.
Materials and Prep
- Play dough (various colors)
- Play dough tools (optional)
No additional preparation is required.
Activities
- Create letter shapes: Help the student form different letters using Play dough. Encourage them to say the sound of each letter as they mold it.
- Sound matching: Say a word out loud and have the student find the Play dough letter that represents the initial sound of the word. For example, say "cat" and have them find the letter "C" in Play dough.
- Sound sorting: Provide the student with a selection of Play dough letters and ask them to sort them into groups based on their initial sounds. For example, they can create a group for letters that make the "buh" sound and another group for letters that make the "kuh" sound.
- Sound guessing game: Take turns with the student in making a Play dough shape and saying the sound it represents. The other person has to guess the letter that corresponds to the sound.
