Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a short paragraph about your favorite animal, using descriptive words and complete sentences.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or crayons

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Begin by discussing different animals with the student. Ask them to choose their favorite animal and explain why they like it. Encourage them to think about the animal's appearance, behavior, and any interesting facts they know.

  2. Descriptive Words: Help the student come up with a list of descriptive words to describe their chosen animal. Write down the words on a piece of paper or whiteboard. Discuss the meanings of each word and encourage the student to use them in their writing.

  3. Writing Practice: Have the student write a short paragraph about their favorite animal using the descriptive words they brainstormed. Encourage them to use complete sentences and to include details about the animal's appearance, behavior, and any interesting facts they know.

  4. Illustration: After writing their paragraph, have the student draw a picture of their favorite animal to accompany their writing. They can use crayons or colored pencils to add color and detail to their illustration.

  5. Sharing and Discussion: Once the student has completed their writing and illustration, have them share their work with you or other family members. Encourage them to talk about their favorite animal and explain why they chose it.
