Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the importance of physical activity for animals and humans.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space for movement
  • Animal pictures or stuffed animals
  • Whiteboard or paper and markers

Activities

  1. Warm-Up: Animal Movements

Start by showing the pictures or stuffed animals of different animals. Ask the student to mimic the movements of each animal, such as hopping like a rabbit or crawling like a turtle. Encourage them to be creative and have fun with it!

  2. Animal Exercise Circuit

Set up different exercise stations around the room or yard, each representing a different animal. For example, a jumping station for kangaroos, a balancing station for flamingos, and a crawling station for snakes. Guide the student through each station, explaining the benefits of each exercise and encouraging them to try their best.

  3. Cool-Down: Animal Stretching

After the exercise circuit, have the student sit down and stretch their muscles. Use animal-themed stretches, such as reaching up high like a giraffe or bending low like a frog. Remind them how important it is to cool down and stretch after physical activity.

Kindergarten Grade Talking Points

  • "Animals, just like humans, need exercise to stay healthy and strong."
  • "Different animals have different ways of moving. Can you think of any animals and how they move?"
  • "When we exercise, it helps our muscles grow and makes our hearts strong."
  • "Exercises like jumping, balancing, and crawling can be fun, just like playing pretend as different animals!"
  • "Stretching after exercise helps our muscles relax and prevents them from getting sore."
