Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and learn about various winter animals.
Materials and Prep
- White paper
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Glue
No additional knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Create a Winter Animal Collage: Provide the student with white paper, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, and glue. Encourage them to draw and color various winter animals, such as polar bears, penguins, or snow owls, on separate pieces of paper. Then, assist the student in cutting out the animals and gluing them onto a larger piece of paper to create a collage.
- Winter Animal Shadow Matching: Cut out silhouettes of different winter animals from black paper. Place the silhouettes on a table or against a wall. Ask the student to identify the corresponding animal from a set of animal picture cards and match them with their shadows.
- Winter Animal Movement Game: Create flashcards with pictures of different winter animals. Show each flashcard to the student and ask them to imitate the movements of the animal. For example, if the flashcard shows a penguin, the student can waddle like a penguin.
Talking Points
- Winter animals are special because they live in cold places where it snows a lot.
- Polar bears are big and white. They have a thick layer of fat called blubber to keep them warm in the cold water.
- Penguins are birds that cannot fly, but they are excellent swimmers. They have a special layer of feathers that keeps them warm in the icy water.
- Snow owls are beautiful birds with white feathers. They have excellent hearing and can turn their heads almost all the way around.
