Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 3-year-old student will have a better understanding of number sense and be able to recognize and count numbers from 1 to 5.
Materials and Prep
- Number flashcards (1-5)
- Counting toys or objects (e.g., blocks, buttons, or small toys)
- Blank paper and crayons/markers
Activities
Show the number flashcards to the student one by one and ask them to repeat the numbers after you. Encourage them to say the numbers out loud and point to the corresponding number of fingers on their hand.
Spread out the counting toys or objects on a table or the floor. Ask the student to count the objects one by one, touching each object as they count. Help them if needed and praise their efforts.
Draw a simple picture on the blank paper and ask the student to count the objects in the picture. For example, draw five flowers and ask them to count the flowers. Repeat with different numbers and objects.

"Wow, you counted three toys! Great job! Can you show me three fingers?"
"Let's draw a picture together. How many flowers should we draw? Let's count them as we draw."
"You counted all the flowers correctly! You're getting really good at this."
