Objective

By the end of this lesson, the 2-year-old student will have a basic understanding of World Read Aloud Day and engage in fun activities related to reading aloud.

Materials and Prep

  • A selection of age-appropriate books
  • A comfortable reading area with pillows or cushions
  • A stuffed animal or puppet for storytelling
  • A timer or stopwatch (optional)

Activities

  • Read Aloud: Choose a favorite book and read it aloud to the student, using engaging voices and expressions. Encourage the student to listen and interact with the story.
  • Storytelling with Puppet: Use the stuffed animal or puppet to tell a simple story. Make the puppet come to life and involve the student in the storytelling process.
  • Act Out the Story: After reading or storytelling, encourage the student to act out parts of the story using their imagination and body movements.
  • Sing and Rhyme: Introduce nursery rhymes or simple songs related to reading or books. Sing together and encourage the student to join in with the actions or gestures.
  • Book Hunt: Hide a few books around the room and ask the student to find them. Celebrate each discovery and encourage the student to explore the books further.
  • Reading Timer: If the student is interested, introduce a timer or stopwatch to create a sense of excitement and challenge. Set a short time limit and see how many pages or pictures the student can explore before the time is up.
