Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to organize animals into patterns based on their numbers, while learning about Noah's story from the Bible.

Materials and Prep

  • A set of animal toys or pictures
  • A large piece of paper or a whiteboard
  • Markers or crayons

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  • Animal Sorting: Give the student a set of animal toys or pictures and ask them to sort them based on their numbers. For example, they can group animals with 2 legs, 4 legs, or more. Encourage them to create different patterns and explain their reasoning.
  • Number Patterns: Using a large piece of paper or a whiteboard, draw a simple grid and write numbers from 1 to 10 in random order. Ask the student to identify the missing numbers and fill them in to complete the pattern. You can also create more complex patterns for older students.
  • Noah's Ark: Tell the student the story of Noah's Ark from the Bible, emphasizing the importance of organizing and counting the animals. After the story, ask the student to draw or create their own representation of Noah's Ark, including different animals and their numbers.

Talking Points

  • Noah's Ark: "Noah was a man who built a big boat called an ark. He had to bring two of every kind of animal onto the ark. Can you imagine having so many animals on a boat?"
  • Counting Animals: "Noah had to count all the animals to make sure he had two of each kind. Let's count the animals together and see how many we have."
  • Sorting Animals: "We can sort the animals based on how many legs they have. Can you find all the animals with 4 legs? How about the ones with 2 legs?"
  • Completing Patterns: "Look at the numbers on the paper. Can you see a pattern? What number comes next? Let's fill in the missing numbers to complete the pattern."
  • Creating an Ark: "Now it's time to create our own ark. Think about the animals we talked about and draw or build an ark with them inside."
