Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to organize animals into patterns based on their numbers.
Materials and Prep
- Noah's Ark toy set or pictures of animals
- Number cards or small number objects
- Blank paper and crayons
- Bible (optional)
Activities
- Animal Sorting: Give the student a set of animal toys or pictures. Ask them to sort the animals based on the number of legs they have. For example, put all the animals with four legs in one group, two legs in another group, and so on.
- Number Patterns: Introduce the concept of number patterns by showing the student number cards or small number objects. Start with a simple pattern like 1, 2, 1, 2 and ask the student to continue the pattern. Gradually increase the complexity of the patterns as the student progresses.
- Animal Number Patterns: Combine the concepts of animals and number patterns. Ask the student to organize the animals into patterns based on their numbers. For example, they can arrange the animals in a pattern like 1, 2, 1, 2, or 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1.
- Draw and Create: Provide the student with blank paper and crayons. Ask them to draw their own animal number patterns. Encourage them to be creative and come up with unique patterns.
Talking Points
- Animals can have different numbers of legs. Some animals have four legs, like dogs and cats, while others have two legs, like birds and humans.
- Numbers can also be arranged in patterns. We can have patterns like 1, 2, 1, 2 or 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1.
- Now let's combine animals and numbers to create animal number patterns. We can organize the animals based on their numbers, like 1, 2, 1, 2 or 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1.
- After organizing the animals into patterns, we can draw our own animal number patterns. Let's use our imagination and create unique patterns!
