Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to organize animals into patterns based on their numbers, while learning about Noah's story from the Bible.
Materials and Prep
- Paper or whiteboard
- Markers or crayons
- Animal toys or pictures
Prior knowledge of basic counting and familiarity with Noah's Ark story from the Bible would be helpful.
Activities
- Count and Sort: Have the student count a set of animal toys or pictures and sort them into groups based on their numbers.
- Number Patterns: Create number patterns using animal pictures or toys, and ask the student to continue the pattern by adding the appropriate animals.
- Animal Order: Arrange the animal toys or pictures in a specific order, such as by size or type, and have the student identify the pattern.
- Storytime: Read or tell the story of Noah's Ark, emphasizing the different animals and their numbers.
Talking Points
- God asked Noah to build a big boat called an ark.
- Noah had to bring animals onto the ark, but he needed to organize them.
- Let's count the animals together and see how many there are.
- We can sort the animals into groups based on their numbers. For example, all the animals with 2 legs can go in one group, and all the animals with 4 legs can go in another group.
- Now let's make a pattern using animal pictures or toys. We can start with one animal, then add two of the same animal, and keep adding more animals in the same pattern.
- Look at these animal pictures or toys. Can you put them in order from smallest to biggest?
- Remember, Noah had to take care of all the animals on the ark. It was a big job!
