Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to write a well-structured paragraph about the different food groups and their importance in maintaining a balanced diet.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen/pencil
  • Blank paper
  • Food pyramid poster or printout

Activities

  1. Introduction (5 minutes): Start by discussing the importance of a balanced diet and briefly introduce the five food groups.
  2. Food Group Brainstorm (10 minutes): Have the student brainstorm different types of food that belong to each food group. Encourage them to think of specific examples.
  3. Paragraph Writing (15 minutes): Instruct the student to write a paragraph about the different food groups, including examples of foods in each group and why it is important to include them in a balanced diet.
  4. Peer Review (5 minutes): Have the student exchange their paragraph with a peer for feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  5. Revision and Final Draft (10 minutes): Based on the feedback received, the student should revise their paragraph and write a final draft.
  6. Sharing and Discussion (5 minutes): Allow the student to share their final paragraph with the family and facilitate a brief discussion about the importance of a balanced diet.
