Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and identify the letters of the alphabet.
Materials and Prep
- Alphabet flashcards or printed letters
- Blank paper and crayons
- Clear space for physical activities
No prior knowledge or preparation required.
Activities
- Letter Hunt: Hide alphabet flashcards around the room and have the student find them. When they find a card, ask them to say the letter out loud.
- Letter Coloring: Give the student a blank paper with a letter drawn on it and ask them to color the letter while you talk about its sound.
- Alphabet Dance: Play music and have the student dance around. When the music stops, call out a letter and have the student freeze while making the shape of that letter with their body.
Talking Points
- Letter Recognition: "Let's look for the letter 'A'. Can you find the 'A'?"
- Letter Sounds: "The letter 'B' makes the sound 'buh'. Can you say 'buh' like 'B'?"
- Alphabet Fun: "We are going to dance like the letter 'D'. Show me your best 'D' dance move!"
