Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand how numbers up to 10 can be broken down into smaller parts that make up the whole.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Paper, crayons, scissors
Prep: None required
Activities
1. Drawing: Draw a big circle on a piece of paper. Divide the circle into 4 equal parts and color each part differently.
2. Cutting: Cut out 10 small squares from a piece of paper. Then cut each square into halves to show that 2 halves make a whole.
3. Counting: Count out loud from 1 to 10 while pointing to different objects in the room. Discuss how each number is made up of smaller numbers.
Talking Points

- "When we draw a circle and split it into 4 parts, each part is like a piece of a pie. Yummy math!"
- "Cutting squares into halves is like sharing a snack. Two halves make a whole square!"
- "Counting is like a fun game! Let's count together and see how each number is special."
