Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to count using pompoms and understand basic arithmetic concepts.
Materials and Prep
- Pompoms (different colors)
- A large container or bowl
- A small cup or scoop
Before starting the lesson, make sure the pompoms are easily accessible and the container is empty.
Activities
-
Counting with Pompoms
Start by pouring the pompoms into the container. Show the student how to use the cup or scoop to pick up one pompom at a time and place it into a separate pile while counting out loud. Encourage the student to join in and count with you.
-
Sorting by Color
Next, ask the student to sort the pompoms by color. Encourage them to name the colors as they go along. This activity helps with color recognition and sorting skills.
-
Addition and Subtraction
For this activity, ask the student to pick a certain number of pompoms from the pile and place them in the container. Then, ask them to take away a specific number of pompoms. Help them count the remaining pompoms to understand the concept of subtraction. Repeat this activity with different numbers to practice addition and subtraction.
