Objective

By the end of this lesson, Elisabeth will be able to identify colorful spring flowers and signs of spring using color cards.

Materials and Prep

  • Color cards (red, yellow, blue, green, etc.)
  • Outdoor space to explore
  • Knowledge of basic colors

Activities

  • Colorful Flower Hunt: Take the color cards outside and search for flowers that match the colors on the cards. Encourage Elisabeth to find as many different colored flowers as she can.
  • Spring Scavenger Hunt: Use the color cards to look for other signs of spring, such as green leaves, yellow sunshine, blue sky, and more. Discuss each item found.
  • Color Sorting: Sort the color cards into groups based on similar colors. Talk about which colors are most common in nature during spring.

  • Quotation: "Let's use our color cards to find flowers that match the colors. Can you find a red flower like this card?"
  • Quotation: "Look, the green leaves on the trees match our green color card! What other green things can we find?"
  • Quotation: "Let's sort the color cards. Which colors do you see most in the flowers and signs of spring we found today?"
