Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the importance of coral reefs, identify some coral reef animals, and solve simple math problems related to coral reefs.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: paper, colored pencils, ruler, calculator (optional)

Prep: Familiarize yourself with some common coral reef animals and their names.

Activities

  • Create your own coral reef habitat drawing. Include colorful fish, coral, and other marine life.

  • Count the number of different animals in your coral reef drawing and write the numbers down.

  • Measure the length of the coral in your drawing using a ruler. Write down the measurements.

  • Imagine you are a scientist exploring a coral reef. Write a short story about your adventure.
