By the end of this lesson, your 1-year-old will be able to understand basic addition concepts through fun activities.
Materials and Prep
- Counting objects like toys, fruits, or blocks
- A positive attitude and patience
Activities
Count and show your child two objects. Say "One, two!" Then add one more object and say "One more! How many now?"
Use toys or blocks to create a simple math problem like "1 + 1 = ?". Encourage your child to count the total.
Make a fun game out of adding by clapping or stomping together while saying the numbers aloud.
Talking Points
"Let's count together! One, two, three!"
"Can you show me one block? Now, let's add one more block. How many do we have now?"
"When we clap two times and then clap one more time, how many claps do we have in total?"
