Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and say numbers 1 through 5, while engaging in fun activities that incorporate counting in a playful and interactive way.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials are needed, just your voice and enthusiasm!
- Be prepared to use your hands and body to demonstrate counting.
- Have a comfortable space where your student can move around freely.
Activities
-
Counting Fingers:
Hold up one finger and say, "This is one!" Then add another finger, counting together, "One, two!" Continue until you reach five fingers. Encourage the student to mimic you.
-
Jumping Counts:
Stand together and jump in place while counting out loud. Say, "Jump one! Jump two! Jump three!" This adds movement to counting and makes it more exciting.
-
Clapping Counts:
Clap your hands together and count each clap. Start with one clap and go up to five. Say, "Clap one! Clap two! Can you clap with me?"
-
Body Counts:
Point to different body parts and count them together. For example, "Let's count our eyes! One, two!" This helps them connect counting with their own body.
Talking Points
- "Can you show me one finger? Great job! That's one!"
- "Let's jump together! One jump, two jumps! Can you count with me?"
- "Clap your hands! One clap, two claps! Can you make it three?"
- "How many eyes do we have? One, two! That's right, two eyes!"
