Objective
By the end of this lesson, Jaxon will be able to identify and name different colors and shapes through fun activities. He will also develop fine motor skills, language skills, and an appreciation for art and music.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper or cardboard (if available)
- Crayons or markers (if available)
- Musical instruments (or household items to make sounds)
- Open space for movement
- Simple songs or nursery rhymes
Before the lesson, prepare a safe and engaging space where Jaxon can explore colors and shapes freely. If you have colorful paper, cut them into various shapes like circles, squares, and triangles.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house. Ask Jaxon to find objects of specific colors. For example, say, "Can you find something red?" Celebrate when he finds each item!
-
Shape Collage: Using colorful paper, help Jaxon create a collage by gluing different shapes together. Encourage him to name each shape as he adds it to his collage.
-
Musical Shapes: Play a fun song and encourage Jaxon to dance. When the music stops, call out a shape, and he has to freeze in a pose that represents that shape!
-
Shape Sorting Game: If you have different shaped objects, help Jaxon sort them into groups based on their shape. Talk about how many sides each shape has.
Talking Points
- Art: "Look at all these colors! This is red, and this is blue. What color do you like?"
- English: "Can you say 'circle'? Great job! A circle is round!"
- History: "Long ago, people used colors to tell stories. What story can we tell with colors?"
- Math: "How many shapes do you have? Let's count them together!"
- Music: "Listen to the music! Can you dance like a square? Can you dance like a circle?"
- Physical Education: "Let's jump like a triangle! Can you make a triangle with your body?"
- Science: "What happens when we mix red and blue? Let's see if we can make a new color!"
- Social Studies: "In different places, people use different colors. What colors do you see outside?"
