Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and pronounce the sounds of the letters A, B, and C. They will engage in fun activities that help them connect letters to their sounds through play and creativity.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Small objects or toys that start with the letters A, B, and C (e.g., apple, ball, cat)
- Space for activities (a table or floor area)
Before starting, make sure to gather all materials and choose a comfortable space for the activities. Familiarize yourself with the sounds of the letters A, B, and C.
Activities
-
Letter Sound Hunt
Go on a mini treasure hunt around the house or yard to find objects that start with the letters A, B, and C. For example, look for an apple for A, a ball for B, and a cat for C. When you find an object, say its name and emphasize the starting letter sound!
-
Sound Drawing
Using paper and crayons, draw pictures of objects that start with each letter. For example, draw an apple for A, a ball for B, and a cat for C. As you draw, say the name of the object and its starting sound out loud!
-
Letter Sound Dance
Play some fun music and dance! When the music stops, call out a letter (A, B, or C). The student must freeze and make the sound of that letter. This will help them remember the sounds while having fun!
Talking Points
- "Can you tell me what sound the letter A makes? It's like the sound in 'apple'!"
- "What about the letter B? It sounds like 'buh' in 'ball'!"
- "Now let's try the letter C! It sounds like 'kuh' in 'cat'!"
- "When we find things that start with A, B, and C, we are learning! Can you find something that starts with A?"
- "Great job! When we draw, we can remember the sounds better! What will you draw for A?"
