Objective
By the end of this lesson, Michael will be able to recognize and name the letters of the alphabet, understand the sounds they make, and identify words that start with each letter.
Materials and Prep
- Michael's imagination
- His favorite colors for drawing
- A flat surface to write or draw on
- Fun voices for characters
Before the lesson, think of some fun characters or animals that Michael likes, as this will help make the learning more engaging!
Activities
-
Alphabet Adventure:
Take Michael on a pretend adventure where each stop represents a letter of the alphabet. For example, "Let's go to the A-Apple tree!" and "Now we are at the B-Bee hive!" Encourage him to make the sounds of the letters as you go.
-
Letter Drawing:
Ask Michael to draw his favorite letter using his favorite colors. Once he finishes, help him think of words that start with that letter. For example, "What starts with the letter 'C'? Can you think of a 'Cat'?"
-
Sound Sorting:
Make different animal sounds or noises and ask Michael to guess which letter they start with. For example, "What sound does a dog make? It starts with 'D' for Dog!"
-
Alphabet Song:
Sing the Alphabet song together! You can even make it more fun by adding dance moves or funny voices for each letter.
Talking Points
- "Can you tell me what letter this is? It makes the sound 'A' like in 'Apple'!"
- "What letter comes after 'B'? Let's sing it together!"
- "Great job! What other words can you think of that start with the letter 'M'?"
- "Remember, every letter has a special sound! Can you make the sound for 'S'? It sounds like a snake!"
