Objective
By the end of this lesson, Asher will be able to recognize and read simple words related to everyday life situations, enhancing his vocabulary and comprehension skills through engaging activities across various subjects.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or markers for drawing
- Everyday items from around the house (toys, food, clothing, etc.)
- A comfortable space for physical activities
- A timer (optional, for timed activities)
Before the lesson, gather everyday items and make sure Asher is comfortable and ready to explore learning through fun activities.
Activities
- Word Scavenger Hunt: Go on a scavenger hunt around the house to find items that start with different letters. Asher can say the name of each item he finds and draw a picture of it.
- Story Time Art: Read a short story together. After reading, Asher can draw his favorite part of the story and label it with simple words (like "cat" or "tree").
- Movement Words: Create a physical activity that represents different words. For example, jump for "jump," spin for "spin," and clap for "clap." This will help Asher connect words with actions.
- Simple History Role Play: Pretend to be a famous historical figure (like a friendly explorer). Asher can ask questions and learn simple facts while role-playing together.
- Science in Nature: Go outside and explore nature. Collect leaves or rocks and talk about their colors and shapes, encouraging Asher to use descriptive words.
Talking Points
- "Can you find something that starts with the letter 'B'? What is it?"
- "What was your favorite part of the story? Can you draw it for me?"
- "Let’s jump! Jumping is like the word 'jump.' Can you show me?"
- "If you were an explorer, what would you want to discover? Let’s pretend!"
- "Look at this leaf! What color is it? Can you think of a word to describe it?"
