Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to count from 1 to 10 using their fingers and objects around them while having fun with engaging activities.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials are required for this lesson.
- Prepare a space for movement and play, such as a living room or outdoor area.
- Be ready to use everyday objects (like toys, blocks, or snacks) for counting activities.
Activities
-
Finger Counting:
Start by showing the student their fingers. Count each finger together, saying “1, 2, 3…” up to 10. Encourage them to wiggle their fingers as they count.
-
Counting Objects:
Find small objects around the house (like toy cars, blocks, or snacks). Place them in a pile and count them together, saying the number as you touch each object.
-
Jump and Count:
Have the student jump in place while counting. For example, “Let’s jump 5 times! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!” This combines movement with counting.
-
Sing a Counting Song:
Sing a simple counting song, like “Five Little Ducks” or “Ten in the Bed.” Encourage the child to join in and count along with the song.
Talking Points
- “Let’s count our fingers! How many do we have?”
- “Look at these toys! Can we count them together?”
- “Jump with me! Let’s count how many jumps we can do!”
- “Singing helps us remember numbers! Can you sing with me?”
