Objective
By the end of this lesson, Rock will understand the concept of migration, why animals migrate, and some examples of animals that migrate. Rock will also engage in fun activities to reinforce this knowledge.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Colored pencils or crayons
- Markers
- A comfortable space for drawing and writing
- A world map (can be drawn or printed out on paper)
Before the lesson, it would be helpful to know some common animals that migrate and their migration patterns. This will help Rock connect the activities to real-world examples.
Activities
-
Animal Migration Drawing:
Rock will choose an animal that migrates and draw a picture of it. He can label its migration path on the drawing. This will help him visualize where the animal goes during migration.
-
Story Time:
Rock will create a short story about a migrating animal. He can include details about where it starts, where it goes, and why it migrates. This will encourage creativity while reinforcing the lesson.
-
Migration Map:
Using the world map, Rock will mark the starting point and destination of different migrating animals. This will help him understand the distances and routes that animals take during migration.
-
Migration Facts Quiz:
Rock will create a mini quiz for himself based on the migration facts he learned. He can ask questions like, "What animal migrates the farthest?" This will help him recall the information in a fun way.
