Objective

By the end of this lesson, Rock will understand the concept of migration, why animals migrate, and be able to identify different animals that migrate. He will also create a fun craft to visualize migration patterns.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • Glue and scissors
  • String or yarn (optional)
  • Access to the internet for a short video (optional)
  • A comfortable space for crafting and learning

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with some common migratory animals and their migration patterns. You can also find a short video about migration to show Rock if you have internet access.

Activities

  • Discussion about Migration:

Start with a fun conversation about what Rock knows about migration. Ask him to think about why animals might move from one place to another. This will help him connect his own experiences with the topic.

  • Animal Migration Craft:

Rock will create a craft showing a migratory animal and its path. He can draw an animal on paper, cut it out, and use string or yarn to show where it migrates. This visual representation will help him understand the concept better.

  • Watch a Video:

If possible, watch a short video about animal migration together. Discuss what he sees and how it relates to what he has learned. This can help reinforce the lesson with visual examples.

  • Story Time:

Read a short story or a book about migration. Ask Rock questions about the story and how the animals migrate. This will help him engage with the topic through storytelling.
