Objective
By the end of this lesson, Dalton will be able to recognize and read several sight words, and he will complete sentences using those words, enhancing his reading and writing skills.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or crayon
- List of sight words (can be written down or memorized)
- Simple sentences for completion (can be created on the spot)
Before starting the lesson, make sure to have a list of sight words ready. You can choose words that Dalton is already familiar with or introduce a few new ones.
Activities
-
Sight Word Treasure Hunt: Write down some sight words on pieces of paper and hide them around the learning area. Dalton will go on a treasure hunt to find them. When he finds a word, he will read it out loud!
-
Sentence Builder: Start with a simple sentence such as "The cat is ___." Dalton will fill in the blank using a sight word he has learned. Encourage him to come up with different words for the same sentence.
-
Word Art: Have Dalton choose his favorite sight words and create a colorful piece of art with them. He can write the words in different colors and decorate around them.
-
Story Time: Read a short story together that includes some of the sight words. Pause to let Dalton read the sight words whenever he comes across them.
