Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to spell 10 new words correctly and use them in simple sentences. They will also develop a greater love for spelling through fun activities.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Colored markers or crayons
- Timer (optional)
- List of 10 words to spell (choose simple, familiar words)
- Space to write and play
Before the lesson, choose 10 words that the student is interested in or familiar with. Make sure they are age-appropriate and can be easily illustrated.
Activities
-
Word Wall:
Create a colorful word wall by writing each of the 10 spelling words on a separate piece of paper. The student can decorate each word with drawings that represent the meaning of the word.
-
Spelling Bee:
Conduct a mini spelling bee where you say each word aloud, and the student has to spell it out loud or write it down. Celebrate every correct answer with a fun cheer!
-
Word Hunt:
Hide the written words around the room. The student will go on a word hunt to find them. Once they find a word, they must spell it out loud before moving on to the next one.
-
Sentence Creation:
After spelling each word, have the student create a simple sentence using that word. Encourage them to be creative and use their imagination!
