Objective
By the end of this lesson, Terrance will be able to count from 1 to 20 confidently and recognize the numbers visually and verbally. He will also understand the concept of counting through fun and engaging activities.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials are needed for this lesson, just Terrance's enthusiasm and willingness to learn!
- Be prepared to encourage and celebrate every small achievement to keep the lesson fun and engaging.
Activities
-
Counting with Claps: Terrance will clap his hands as he counts out loud. Start with 1 clap for 1, 2 claps for 2, and so on, all the way to 20. This will help him associate numbers with actions!
-
Number Jumping: Create a number line on the floor using imaginary lines. Terrance will jump to each number as he counts aloud. For example, jump to 1, say "1!", jump to 2, say "2!", and continue up to 20.
-
Count and Move: Pick different objects around the room (like pillows, toys, or even fingers) and have Terrance count them out loud as he moves them from one place to another. This will reinforce counting in a practical way.
-
Sing a Counting Song: Use a simple counting song like "Five Little Ducks" or create a new song where each verse counts up to 20. Singing makes learning fun and memorable!
-
Counting Story Time: Read a short story that includes numbers, and pause at each number to let Terrance count along with you. This will help him see numbers in context.
Talking Points
- "Let's count together! Can you say '1' with me?"
- "How many claps do we need for the number 3? Let's try it!"
- "Jump to number 5! How high can you jump?"
- "Look at this toy! How many do you see? Let's count them together!"
- "Let's sing our counting song! Can you help me count to 10 in the song?"
