Objective
By the end of this lesson, Ava will explore her creativity through various art activities, expressing herself with colors and shapes, and enhancing her imagination through art.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind)
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Watercolors (if available)
- A paintbrush (if using watercolors)
- A container for water (if using watercolors)
- An apron or old shirt to protect clothing
Before the lesson, make sure to set up a clean, comfortable space for Ava to work on her art. Lay out the materials so they are easy to reach.
Activities
-
Colorful Nature Collage
Ava can go outside (or look out the window) and find different colors in nature. She can then use crayons or colored pencils to draw what she sees or create a collage using those colors on paper.
-
Imaginary Creatures
Ava can close her eyes and imagine a creature that has never been seen before. She can then draw or paint her imaginary creature, using lots of colors to bring it to life!
-
Storybook Art
After reading a short story together, Ava can create her favorite scene from the book using crayons or paints. This helps her connect art with storytelling.
-
Color Mixing Fun
If using watercolors, Ava can learn how to mix colors. She can start with two colors and see what new color she can create, encouraging her to experiment and discover!
Talking Points
- "What colors do you see outside? Can you name them?"
- "Can you tell me about your imaginary creature? What does it look like?"
- "What was your favorite part of the story? Let’s make a picture of it!"
- "What happens when we mix blue and yellow? Let’s find out!"
