Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will explore different ways to overcome movement challenges through fun activities. They will learn how to move their body in various ways and find solutions to make moving easier and more enjoyable.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Make sure the area is safe for movement (clear of obstacles).
- Set aside a comfortable space for activities, preferably outdoors if possible.
Activities
-
Animal Walks:
Have the student imitate different animals while moving around. For example, they can crawl like a bear, hop like a frog, or waddle like a penguin. This will help them explore different ways of moving their bodies.
-
Obstacle Course:
Create a simple obstacle course using household items. The student can jump over pillows, crawl under tables, or balance on a line drawn on the ground. This activity encourages problem-solving as they figure out how to navigate the course.
-
Movement Freeze Dance:
Play music and let the student dance freely. When the music stops, they must freeze in a funny position. This helps them practice quick movements and control their bodies.
-
Balloon Volleyball:
Using a balloon, have the student practice hitting the balloon back and forth. This activity focuses on hand-eye coordination and helps them explore different ways to move their arms and body.
Talking Points
- "What animal do you want to be? Let's see how they move!"
- "Can you figure out how to get over this pillow? What will you do?"
- "When the music stops, can you freeze like a statue? Show me your best freeze!"
- "How can we keep the balloon in the air? What movements can help us?"
- "Did you find a new way to move your body today? What was your favorite?"
