By the end of this lesson, Gatlin will be able to identify and name various colors, understand how colors mix to create new colors, and express his creativity through color-based activities.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials are needed for this lesson.
- Be prepared to engage with Gatlin and encourage him to explore colors around him.
- Have a colorful environment; point out colors in nature, toys, or clothing.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Take Gatlin on a mini adventure around the house or yard to find objects of different colors. Ask him to name each color as he finds it.
-
Mixing Colors:
Use water and food coloring or different colored items to demonstrate how colors mix. Show Gatlin how blue and yellow make green!
-
Color Sorting:
Gather various colored toys or household items and have Gatlin sort them into groups by color. This will help him recognize and categorize colors.
-
Color Dance:
Play music and have Gatlin dance around. When the music stops, call out a color, and he must find something in the room that matches that color!
Talking Points

- "If we mix yellow and blue, what color do you think we will get?"
- "Great job sorting! Can you find something else that is green?"
- "When the music stops, let's find something purple! Can you find it?"
