Materials and Prep

  • Blank paper for drawing
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Access to videos about U.S. states and oceans
  • Flashcards (can be made from paper)
  • Access to quizzes or online games about geography

Before the lesson, prepare a list of educational videos about the states and oceans that are age-appropriate. Create flashcards with the names of states and oceans for daily practice. Make sure to have a comfortable workspace for art activities.

Activities

  • State Art Project:

The student will choose their favorite state and create a colorful poster that includes the state outline, its capital, and a few fun facts. This will help them visualize the state and remember important details.

  • Oceans and States Video Time:

Watch a fun educational video that explains the oceans and U.S. states. After watching, the student can discuss what they learned and write down any interesting facts.

  • Flashcard Challenge:

Using the flashcards, the student will quiz themselves on the names and locations of the states and oceans. They can time themselves to see how quickly they can identify each one, making it a fun challenge!

  • Interactive Map Game:

Play an online geography game that quizzes the student on the locations of states and oceans. This will provide a fun and engaging way to reinforce their knowledge.
