Materials and Prep
- Cookie dough (store-bought or homemade)
- Ice cream (any flavor the student likes)
- Sprinkles, chocolate chips, or other fun toppings
- Baking sheet
- Oven (with adult supervision)
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Mixing bowl
- Spatula
- Cookie cutters (optional)
- Cooling rack
Before starting, make sure to preheat the oven and gather all materials to have everything ready for fun baking!
Activities
-
Measure and Mix:
Start by measuring out the cookie dough ingredients together. Let the student pour and mix to learn how to combine ingredients!
-
Bake the Cookies:
Shape the cookie dough into balls or use cookie cutters to create fun shapes. Place them on the baking sheet and bake them in the oven (with adult help).
-
Cool Down:
Once baked, let the cookies cool on a rack. This is a great time to talk about why cooling is important!
-
Assemble the Sandwiches:
Once the cookies are cool, let the student scoop some ice cream onto one cookie and place another cookie on top to make a sandwich. They can also add sprinkles or chocolate chips for decoration!
-
Taste Test:
Finally, enjoy the ice cream sandwiches together! Discuss the flavors and what they liked best about their creation.
Talking Points
- "What do you think will happen when we mix these ingredients together?"
- "Can you smell how yummy the cookies will be when they bake?"
- "Why do you think we need to let the cookies cool before we eat them?"
- "How many scoops of ice cream do you want on your sandwich?"
- "What toppings do you want to make your sandwich extra special?"
