Objective
By the end of this lesson, Jeremahli will be able to create a colorful artwork that combines drawing and painting while understanding basic shapes and patterns in math. He will also learn to express his creativity through art.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any size)
- Colored pencils or crayons
- Watercolors or any paint available
- Paintbrushes (if using paint)
- A cup of water (for cleaning brushes)
- Paper towels (for drying brushes)
Before the lesson, make sure the workspace is clean and that all materials are easily accessible. It might be helpful to have a few examples of simple shapes and patterns for inspiration.
Activities
-
Shape Hunt: Start by going on a "shape hunt" around the house or outside. Look for different shapes like circles, squares, and triangles. Once you find them, draw them on your paper.
-
Pattern Painting: Create a fun pattern using shapes you found. For example, draw a circle, then a square, then a triangle, and repeat! After drawing, paint over your shapes with bright colors.
-
Color Mixing: Use watercolors to mix colors. Start with two colors and see what new color you can make! Try painting a picture using your new colors.
Talking Points
- "What shapes can you find around us? Let's look for circles, squares, and triangles!"
- "Do you see how we can make patterns? A pattern is when we repeat something, like circle, square, circle!"
- "What happens when we mix blue and yellow? Can you guess what color we will get?"
- "Art is a fun way to show how we feel! What do you want to express in your painting?"
- "Look at all the colors we have! Which one is your favorite? Why?"
- "Every artwork is unique, just like you! What makes your drawing special?"
