Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name at least five letters of the alphabet, understand their sounds, and identify objects that start with those letters. This will help build a foundation for reading and writing skills.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials needed.
- Ensure a quiet and comfortable space for learning.
- Prepare to engage the student with enthusiasm and creativity.
Activities
-
Letter Hunt:
Go on a letter hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that start with different letters. For example, "Can you find something that starts with the letter 'B'?"
-
Letter Sounds Game:
Say a letter and ask the student to make the sound. For example, say "A" and encourage them to say "ah." Then, ask them to think of a word that starts with that letter.
-
Alphabet Song:
Sing the alphabet song together. Encourage the student to sing along and dance to make it fun!
-
Letter Drawing:
Draw letters in the air with your finger and have the student copy you. You can also pretend to write letters in the sand or on a surface.
Talking Points
- "Look at this letter! It's the letter 'A.' Can you say 'A'?"
- "Do you know what sound 'B' makes? It goes 'buh' like in 'ball.' Can you think of something that starts with 'B'?"
- "Let's sing the alphabet song together! Ready? A, B, C, D..."
- "When we write letters, we can make them big or small! Can you show me a big 'C'?"
