Objective
By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to identify and label different facial features in both English and Spanish while creating a fun face collage. The student will enhance their understanding of body parts and improve their fine motor skills through coloring and cutting activities.
Materials and Prep
- Printed male or female outline (one per student)
- Coloring materials (crayons or markers)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Printed images of facial features (eyes, noses, mouths, ears) for cutting out
- Paper for labeling body parts in Spanish
Before the lesson, ensure that all materials are prepared and accessible. Review basic facial features in both English and Spanish to aid in the labeling activity.
Activities
-
Read Aloud:
Begin the lesson by reading "Eyes, Nose, Fingers and Toes: A First Book All About You" by Judy Hindley. Encourage the student to point out the facial features as you read through the book.
-
Coloring the Outline:
Once the story is finished, provide the student with a printed outline of a face. Ask them to color the outline using their favorite colors, encouraging creativity.
-
Cutting and Pasting:
After coloring, guide the student to cut out the facial features provided. They can then paste these features onto their colored outline to create a complete face collage.
-
Labeling in Spanish:
Once the collage is complete, help the student label each facial feature in Spanish. Use printed labels and encourage them to practice saying the words aloud.
